The Golden Temple

The stunning Golden Temple of Amritsar is the holiest site for Sikhs. Tens of thousands pilgrims visit here everyday and bathe in the sacred waters.

Every night, there is a procession carrying the Sikh holy book in an elaborate and heavy box from the Golden Temple across the Guru Bridge and into a separate building in the Temple complex.

Pilgrims and tourists sleep for free in the complex and the giant kitchen feeds 30 to 60 thousand people free meals a day. Above is the building where we stayed, (but in a special room for foreigners).

Kite string - Around 25 km from the Pakistan border, kite-flying is really popular in Amritsar and the area, (remember Kite Runner?), and there are long-lost kites strewn everywhere on top of trees and buildings.
